Djokovic beats Roddick to set up Federer clash in London
Novak Djokovic scored a 6-2, 6-3 win over Andy Roddick to set up a semifinal meeting with Roger Federer at the ATP World Tour Finals.
Roddick had an early chance to take the initiative after winning a break point in the first game but Djokovic saved it to held serve.
Djokovic snatched the lead by breaking in the fourth game and never looked back.
The Serb was hitting his groundstrokes with far more power and precision than Roddick.
Djokovic broke again to clinch the set he needed to qualify.
The Serb roke serve after a Roddick double-fault in the fourth game of the second set and then served out the win in just one hour and five minutes.
Roddick said he was looking forward to a rest and getting himself in shape for next year after a season plagued by injury and illness.
“I am looking forward to resting for 10 days and then trying to get in shape,” he said. “It’s been a tough battle between trying to get healthy and finding the right balance between working and not getting hurt.
“It’s been a tough balance and it’s probably come at about the right time.”
“It’s definitely important to me to win every match here,” Djokovic said. “That’s what I have showed on the court. So I’m still in the tournament, and I really want to go all the way.
“Then, you know, I’ll think about Davis Cup.
